Obituary for Glenn E. Tyler
Late on Saturday evening, July 20, 2013, Glen E. Tyler, while surrounded by family in his home of North Chesterfield, he was called to his heavenly home to rest. A native of Amelia County, Glen was born November 22, 1955 to Minister Alice S. Tyler and the late Reverend Frank E. Tyler. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jasmine Morrison.
Glen attended Brick Church School and Amelia County Schools. Glen served his country for three years in the United States Army. He went to Vietnam and served as a Demolition Engineer assigned to the 550th Engineer Detachment of the 240th Quarter Master Supply Unit.
He was united in holy matrimony to Irene Taylor in 1987.
Glen accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a Watch Care member of Second Antioch Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1992 under the leadership of the late Reverend Herman Grandison. Glen served six years as president of the Amelia County Sunday School Union. He attended the Amelia, Powhatan and Chesterfield Conference for several years.
Glen was known as a master carpenter, responsible for the building and construction of numerous homes in Amelia, Powhatan and all over the state of Virginia. Glen never knew a stranger and was loved by many.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Irene Tyler; his children, Cherilyn Tyler of Maryland, Jackie (Howard) Harris of Amelia, VA, Charlene Taylor, Vanessa (Tony) Robinson, Devonne Taylor of Richmond, VA and Glen Edward McCoy of Amelia, VA; eight grandchildren; one cherished grandson that was known as Glen’s shadow, Daveon; one great grandchild; his loving mother, Minister Alice S. Tyler; of Amelia, VA; one beloved brother, Keith M. (Carrie) Tyler of Amelia; two sisters, Valerie (Steve) Foster of Norfolk, VA and Gloria (Ernest Lee) Thompson of Amelia, VA; five sisters-in-law, Carrie, Mocile, Jean, Mary and Pearl; three brothers-in-law, Collin, Jerome and Steve; three aunts; two uncles; three very devoted cousins, Richard Thompson of Midlothian, VA, Barbara Thompson Eggleston of Stafford, VA and Roscoe Tyler of Amelia, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services for Mr. Glenn E. Tyler of Chesterfield will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 at 12:00 noon from Second Antioch Baptist Church, Powhatan with interment in the Virginia Veteran Cemetery, Amelia.
