Obituary for Gladys Rather Hatcher
Gladys Beatrice (Rather) Hatcher, well known as “Bunny”, suddenly entered into her heavenly home on Monday, October 22, 2012. She was born on July 5, 1932 to the late Richard and Dolly Rather of Crewe, VA. At an early age, Bunny accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the Union Baptist Church, Crewe, VA. In 1965, she joined the Shepherd Community Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD and served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board. While in Baltimore, Bunny met and married John Robert Hatcher. Out of this union, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Dollie Renee. After returning back to her home in Crewe, Bunny continued attending Sunday School and church services at Union Baptist Church until her health began to fail her.
Bunny was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed being in the company of family and friends. Bunny was so funny. She loved “Madea” and the court shows. Bunny welcomed any and everyone in her home, especially her nieces and nephews which she treated as her own. She was good for offering you something to eat or a cold Pepsi.
In addition to her parents, her husband, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death: John Robert Hatcher, Lee Rather, Ruben Rather, Raymond Rather, Edward Rather, Elfreda Ferguson and Elsie “Baby Sis” Price.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: Her loving and devoted daughter Dollie James; granddaughters, Tomiko James and Letitia James Bradley (Emmil); great-grandson, Emmil Jr.; all of Richmond. Siblings: Daniel Rather (Mabel); devoted sister Lula Blackwell, Thelma Rather of Crewe, VA. Rev. Richard Rather (Dorothy) and Lorraine, Rather of Baltimore, MD; Sister-in-law, Barbara Rather of Baltimore, MD; Brother-in-law, Joseph Price of Crewe, VA. A large host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A loving and devoted niece, Brenda Belfield (Roy) of Richmond, VA.
Funeral Services Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Rather Family Cemetery.
