Obituary for Gerline W. Bassfield
Gerline Watson Bassfield, the daughter of Earnest and Betty Watson and the granddaughter of James and Julia Farley, was born November 10, 1964, and departed this life on Monday, June 6, 2022. She was preceded in death by her baby girl at birth, her mother and her grandparents.
Gerline was a happy and cheerful person making friends wherever she went. She had an infectious smile that drew you to her. She was the community babysitter like her mom. Gerline loved and adored her kids and grandkids. She nurtured them with all the passion a grandmother could give for her grandkids. She sacrificed her personal time to make sure they were okay and would move heaven and earth for them if she could.
Gerline was baptized and joined Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. She was a member of the Missionary Ministry, Senior Choir and Gospel Choir.
Gerline was married at a young age to Warren Bassfield. She leaves to cherish her memories: seven children, Shaskyra B. Agnew (Reco), LaStarra B. Garcia, Takarra Hill, KaTyra Hill, Tyrone Hill Jr., Tyrell Hill and Kenyada Bassfield; 16 grandkids who affectionately called her Ma, (Malayshia, Anthony Jr., Shaniyah, Sa-Juan, Ka-Lon, Kimora, John IV, Lay’Quan, Ja’Kari, Kevin Jr., Katavion, Kamelra, Kam’Ron, Jaliyah, Ka’Marjae and Trenton; her father, Earnest Watson; four sisters, Jeanette (Tyree), Tina (Wayne), Linda (Ron) and Jackie (Gerry); one brother, Robert Lee ( Maneesha); Kevin, AJ and Jaron, whom she referred to as devoted sons; two aunts; one uncle; one great aunt; several devoted friends and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Gerline fought a good fight and battled with health issues most of her adult life.
