Obituary for George W. Dodson
On Sunday morning, November 13, 2011, Mr. George Edward Dodson entered into eternal rest at his home in Blackstone, VA. George was born on July 1, 1943 to Sarah Dodson Green in Nottoway County, VA.
He attended Mt. Nebo and A.G. Richardson Schools. At an early age, George accepted Christ and was baptized at the New Poplar Mt. Baptist Church in Blackstone, VA.
In September 1967, George was drafted into the United States Army where he fought in the Vietnam War. After completing his tour of duty, he was Honorably Discharged.Â
George was one of the best bricklayers around. He helped build some of the biggest industries in Nottoway County. He was employed with Jones & Meredith Masonry, Kenbridge, VA for many, many years. He loved fishing and the unpredictable Washington Redskins.
George had a heart of gold. His community and friends, far and near flocked around him for hours of enjoyment at a time. He was the shepherd of the community and he watched over all of his sheep.
On March 25, 1967 he married Alma Mae Washington. They enjoyed seventeen years of marriage. To this union three children were born.
He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Marie Tucker. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his mother and stepfather Jimmy and Sarah Green of Nottoway County; wife Alma M. Dodson; two loving daughters, Lorita Dodson-Nash and Daphne A. Dodson, both of Blackstone, VA; two sons Corey E. Dodson of Arlington, TX and Shawn Hardy of Blackstone, VA; two sisters, Ruby Burrell (Clifford) of Silver Springs, MD and Sarah DeShazior (Carl) of Herndon, VA; three brothers, Joey Green (Lydia) and Henry Green both of Blackstone, VA and Tommy Green (Kearnetta) of Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Danieka, Kiandra, Vantwon and ShaKiva Dodson, TyCorion Wright and QweShawn Couch; two sisters-in-law, Frances Little (David) of Snow Hill, NC and Claudine Yates of Crewe, VA; two brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Tucker of Blackstone, VA and Edward Washington of Burkeville, VA; two aunts, Estelle Eppes and Esther Walker (James) of Blackstone, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; two devoted friends, Bertha Hardy and Herman Fitzgerald; two devoted cousins, Richard Walker and Andrew Eppes.
