Obituary for George W. Brown
George Washington Brown (“Pete”) was born in Blackstone, Virginia on April 22, 1932. He was raised by his mother, Irene Booth Fowlkes and step father Freddie Fowlkes. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 8, 2015.
He accepted Christ at an early age. He loved the Lord and will be remembered as a Man of God. George was educated in the Lunenburg-Nottoway County Public School systems.
George enlisted early in the US Armed Services and served in the Korean War. He received many accolades for his distinguished service. He represented his country with pride, dignity and respect. After his honorable service, George worked for a prestigious company as a truck driver. He was a hard worker and was able to travel to many places across the United States.
George was an avid lover of vintage automobiles; in particular an “exquisite, long Cadillac” was his car of choice. He would keep his cars shined and polished. As a charitable deed, he would often drive neighbors, friends and strangers “free of charge” back and forth from the supermarket to their homes, believing that was his God given duty.
George was a very dedicated and protective brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at cookouts, playing a “mean” game of Spades and Bid Whist and sometimes “cutting a step” on the dance floor. He was a stylish dresser and loved his collection of hats.
Those left to cherish the memories of his love are his two sisters, Anne and Vivian; brother, Waddell; brother in law, Maurice; sisters-in-law, Virginia, Brenda and Laura Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
