Obituary for George Edward Friend
George Edward Friend went to be with his heavenly father in the early morning hours, Saturday January 7th at McGuire Veterans Hospital. He was born July 7th, 1953, in Blackstone, VA to John and Marie Booker Friend, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother John Jr. (Sonny) and his sisters, Edna and Evelyn Friend.
George was baptized at Mt. Level Baptist church. He attended Luther H. Foster high school. He went on to join the military as a Sergeant in the Army National Reserve, retiring after 20 years of service. He then went to work for Boschen Masonry retiring after 30 years. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and talking with his friends.
George is survived by his son George Watson and wife Danita, two granddaughters G’Ahja and Da’Siya Watson of Amelia, VA; three sisters, Ellen Smith (Ben) of Washington, NC, Josephine Green of Richmond, VA, and Annie Mae Friend of New York, NY: mother of his son, Carolyn Watson; stepdaughter, Matasha Watson; two step-granddaughters, Taneisha and Shanequa Patterson of Amelia, VA: nieces, Maria Friend of Henrico, VA, Khadijah Johnson (Joseph III) of Goochland, VA and Deborah Jennings of Georgia; nephews, Anthony Friend and James Jennings of New York, New York; oldest living cousin, Dr. Edmonia T. Yates and her children Patricia and Joseph Yates of Baltimore, Md; a host of other loved ones and friends including, Alexander Friend Jr. and James (Bunny) Roads.
