Obituary for George David Merriman
George David Merriman, known by 'Mr. Dave to most', peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at McGuire Veterans Hospital.
He was born on September 17, 1916 in California where he received his education and later joined the Unites States Army.  There he served his country for twenty-one years retiring as Sergeant First Class with honors.  During his time in the military he was stationed at Fort Pickett, VA where he became the adopted son of the late Kenner and Daisy Chatmon.  He became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and attended wherever he could during his military service.  Upon retirement he worked dilgently with the Church  Aide Circle, Pastor Aide, Vacation Bible, and any other church projects needing his help.  He drove many persons to and from doctors and hospital appointments.  He was a loyal and caring person, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He leaves to cherish his memory, Veda and Raymond Hawkes Sr. of Richmond, VA who was his caregiver, nieces, Raleeta, Kendra, and Cynthia; nephews, James R. (Donna), Jerome, and Jerrod; one sister, Rose C. Morgan; one sister-in-law, Katherine Chatmon; great nieces and nephews, Melissa, Tiffany, Raymond Jr. (Ray J), Teresa, Janae (Daniel), Duane (Rose Marie), Nancy, Christine (Paul); devoted great-great niece, MaKayla and devoted great-great nephew Makhye; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
