Obituary for George A. Patterson
On Tuesday, December 11, 2012, the death angel took a walk in the streets of Richmond, VA and lightly touched George Anthony Patterson and said it’s time to go to your eternal home. “Cook or Cook-Cook” as he was affectionately called was born on December 4, 1968 to Morine Elder Patterson and the late Haywood Patterson, Jr.
His education included Nottoway County Public Schools and Richmond City Public School. He also attended John Tyler Community College.
George worked at various jobs. His first being a paper carrier as a young boy for the Blackstone Courier Record. To name a few, O’Charlies, O’Toole and Famous David, his last three years with the City of Richmond leaf program, a job that he truly loved.
George was a happy entertaining person who enjoyed his family and friends. He held all of his sisters and brothers close to his heart.
As a young boy, George felt as if God had black balled him, but as a young man, he found in his heart to love God and began fellowshipping at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA. There was a special love between him and his mother. Cook had a love for reading the newspaper and all types of magazines. He loved watching the Jerry Springer show and sports, with his favorite being the Pittsburgh Steelers. George will be missed by many family and friends, because to know him was to love him.
George was preceded in death by his father, Haywood Patterson, Jr.; sister, Linda E. Worsham; grandparents, Theodora and Gladys Elder and Haywood and Lucille Patterson, Sr.; nephews, Antonio L. Elder and Solomon Adam Claiborne; and adopted son, Jamal Cobbs.
George leaves to cherish his memory: his baby girl whom he love very, very much, Georgette Anna Marie Patterson; his loving mother, Morine Patterson; a very special and devoted friend and mother of his daughter, Chartisha Hicks; adopted daughter, Deaisa Cobbs; six sisters, Gwendolyn Craig (Kevin), Floreace Claiborne, Gertie Elder, Wanda Coleman, Cynthia Patterson and Sherry Brown (Kevin); two brothers, Milton Elder and Sherwood Patterson; one brother by another mother, Jeffrey Patterson; brother-in-law, Randolph Coleman, Jacklyn Worsham; god daughters, Tierra Dagner, Nyyiah Elder; twelve nieces; eight nephews; twenty-six great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew; six aunts; three uncles; special cousins, Frank and Jeff Davis, Carol and Bobby Johnson, Alvester and Pam Elder, Charlotte Elder, Francis Patterson and Demetric Elder; life long friends, Jerome Johnson, Daryle Bland, Roy Eaton, Jay Johnson, Anthony White, Calvin Synder, LeSean Madison, Harry Johnson, Omar Hoover, Michelle Dickerson, Colleen Cobbs; and a host of other cousins and friends.
