Obituary for Freeman Jr. Harris
Mr. Freeman Harris departed this life Saturday December 19, 2015 at the Dinwiddie Health and Rehab. Son of the late Freeman Harris and Nellie Marshall, he was born February 19, 1930.
He was educated in the Nottoway county school system. He married Augusta Mae Jackson and from that union they were blessed with three children.Â
He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. Freeman was employed with Epes Supply Tire CO for thirty plus years.
He was an active member with the VFW Post 5313 until his health declined. He loved farming, spending time outdoors and talking to his friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace and a brother William Harris.
He is survived by three loving children Larry, Carolyn and LaTanya (Darryl); one brother James Branch of Petersburg, VA; three sister’s Ophelia Pretlow of Prince George, VA, Thelma Branch of Petersburg, VA and Reverend Nellie Myrick of Prince George, VA; two grandchildren Antoine and Darryl (DJ); three great grandson’s Major, Shamare’ and Christian; two sisters in law Nancy Davis of Blackstone VA and Joan Harris of Neptune, NJ; two brothers-in-law George Davis of Blackstone VA and Wallace Pretlow of Prince George VA; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends, one devoted James Stigall; a long time devoted friend Ms. Emma Evans and her loving family. Â
He was truly a loving warm hearted and giving person to all in which he came in contact with.
The Harris family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 26, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm.
Funeral Services for Mr. Freeman Harris will be held Monday, December 28, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment to follow in the Amelia Veterans Cemetery.
