Obituary for Fred M. Oliver
On August 8, 2021 at 4:45 p.m., Fred Milton Oliver departed this life peacefully at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, VA. Fred was the youngest of eleven children born to Douglas Oliver, Sr. and Kate Jennings Oliver of Crewe, VA on February 17, 1946.
He loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. Fred was baptized and joined Union Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Nottoway County Public School System.
Fred was employed with he Burkeville Veneer Company in Burkeville, VA for a brief period. He was known throughout the community for doing odd jobs and helping the elderly.
Fred was a caring person and loved people, especially his family. He devoted his entire life to helping others, especially the elderly and less fortunate. He loved Bingo and pencil coloring. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and traveling, especially to Maryland with his favorite niece and attending the Jennings Family Reunion.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Oliver, Sr. and Kate Jennings Oliver; seven of his siblings, Irma, Betty, Douglas, Jr., Doretha, Lee Royal, James and Martha. He is survived by two sisters: Marie Oliver Chaffin and Eunice Oliver of Crewe, VA; one brother, Clarence Oliver (Ora) of Richmond, VA; three sisters-in-law, Thomasine Oliver of Crewe, VA, Betty Oliver of Dillwyn, VA and Mildred Oliver of Brooklyn, NY; devoted nieces, Deloris Ward of Oxon Hill, MD and Shirley Chaffin of Crewe, VA; a special friend, Keshia Smith of Blackstone, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
His presence will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the community at large.
