A Time To Be Born
On February 2, 1948, in Chatham, Virginia, Fred Calvin Davis was the third of fourteen children born to the late Robert C. Davis and Nellie Minter Davis. He was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at a young age.
A Time to Plant
Sgt. Fred Davis was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 11, 1968 and served proudly as Military Police. He received an Honorable Discharge years later. While serving he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was employed by Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Blackstone, VA, his dedicated years of retirement service was over 35 years. He was a member of VFW Post #5313 serving and dedicating his life through community, retired military service members, over 44 years on the battlefield for others. He served as Post-Commander and lastly Quarter Master until his departure from this side of the Jordan River.
A Time to Love
Fred “Calvin” Davis was married to Nancy Edmonds Davis on August 30, 1980 and to this union three children were born, LaKeisha, Saketra and Derrick. He loved life and never met a stranger. His loyalty, dedication, faithfulness to his family was undying; but unconditionally love for his grandchildren far surpassed any acquaintances he had unspeakable joy within his heart.
A Time to Laugh
Fred was a member of the McDonald’s Breakfast Club with other retirees, where they would gather early mornings laugh and talk together daily.
A Time to Die
On Tuesday, November 11, 2020, our loving and devoted Fred Calvin Davis heard God’s call, angels were dispatched and surrendered to His will, in his earthly home at 505 S. Dillard Street, Blackstone, VA to make heaven his home. Calvin endured many battles and storms over the years with his sickness, God healed him throughout each test. Fred was predeceased by father, Robert Davis, two sisters, Gloria Goggins, Katherine Ferrell, one brother, Timothy Davis, four brother in laws, Lester Patrick, Rodney Woodley, Bruce Woodley, Thomas Woodley, Jr. and father in law, Thomas Woodley, Sr.
