Obituary for Florence Lucille Whitaker
Florence Lucille Whitaker was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 11, 2018. She was born on January 20, 1947 to the late Jesse & Virginia Mondrey. She attended Amelia Elementary School and graduated from Russell Grove High School in the class of 1965. After graduating from high school, Lucille relocated to Richmond, Virginia where she attended and graduated from MCV School of Nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She spent many years working in the hospital and doing private duty. She switched careers and worked for Travelers Insurance and United Health Care where she retired in 2006 and later spent time working with the elderly and continued private duty nursing.
Lucille accepted Christ at an early age and served the Lord in various capacities, singing in several Choirs, working with the Youth ministry, the Women’s Ministry and diligently committing her time anywhere there was a need. Lucille founded and organized the Praise & Worship group “Pearl” where she and her girls sung to the Glory of God across the state of Virginia. She loved singing, helping people, and serving God. Dedicated to helping others, and often working behind the scenes she offered her hands and talents, allowing others to shine, because she knew in the end God would get the Glory.
Lucille was the glue that kept the family together and her home was the hub where anyone with an issue or problem was welcomed. Always providing a listening ear and sound advice even making coffee, muffins and sometimes a meal in a judgment free zone. She was a comforter, peace-maker and protector.
Lucille was a loving and caring mother and Nana. She loved her grandchildren very much and she would do anything for them. People would always ask if she had a favorite and she would say they all are, each one being special in their own way.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert Brown of Grayson, GA , Cynthia Fobbs and Jessica Whitaker of Richmond, VA , two sisters, Martha Jones, Marie (Thomas) Mickie, of Richmond, VA, two brothers, Edward (Doris) Mondrey of Amelia, VA, Oliver (Nancy) Mondrey of Richmond, VA, sisters in law, Carrie Mondrey of Amelia, VA, Dorothy Turner of Richmond, VA.
