Obituary for Florence D. Trent
Mrs. Florence Davis Trent entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sept. 20, 2014 at the home of her great niece Gerline in charge of her care assisted by her daughter Shaskyra. Mrs. Trent was receiving hospice care at Virginia Baptist Hospital and desired to return home to enjoy her last days surrounded by family. God blessed her and allowed her to return home.
Mrs. Florence Trent was born and raised in Blackstone, Va. and attended Nottoway Training School. She joined Shiloh Baptist Church as a young child. She was married and joined in holy matrimony to Rudolph S. Trent in 1942 and moved to Washington, D.C. where they made their home to welcome others. Mrs. Trent returned home years later after the death of her husband to rejoin her Shiloh church family. She was a member of the Sunday school and the Missionary Ministry until her health failed.
Mrs. Florence Davis Trent was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph S. Trent and nine siblings. She was the eldest of 10 born to Henry Peyton and Carrie Peace Davis. She leave to cherish her memory: a daughter whom she raised as her own, Dorothy Davis Hodges (Arthur); a grandson, Tyrone L. Davis I (Cashea); five great grandchildren, a devoted brother-in-law, James R. Farley, 2 sister-in-laws, Mary S. Davis, Idell W. Davis and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.Â
Mrs. Trent was a homemaker and loved traveling, family gatherings, cooking huge meals for holidays and spending time with loved ones. God placed within her a special gift to love unconditionally all children and she used that gift to start a boys and girls club in her home called the Blue Ribbon Junior Lodge Club complete with an in home candy store to raise money to travel with her nieces, nephews and neighborhood children on trips. Her love for family was great and she demonstrated that love by taking care of and allowing family members and close friends to live in her home until they were able to gain their independence. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She adored her brothers and sisters and reached out to each of them and their families including them in all of her activities. Mrs. Trent owned a big house at 527 Tenn. Ave. Washington, D.C. and had a big heart with a beautiful smile. She loved to set on her porch mornings and evenings talking with her neighbors especially Miss Anna. Aunt Florence will be truly missed; she left a legacy of love and an awesome path for others to follow. God Bless!
