Obituary for Fledia C. Woodson
Fledia Louise Christopher was born on May 23, 1925 in Nottoway County, VA to the late Johnnie Newton and Gracie Quarles Christopher. She was the third of seven children. Her brother, Fitzhugh Christopher, preceded her in death.
Fledia was baptized at Springhill Baptist Church at an early age. She was a devoted and faithful member for over 75 years. During those years she attended Sunday School, supported the Junior Ushers, worked with the Missionaries and assisted wherever needed.
Fledia graduated from the Nottoway Training School in 1944. Furthering her training, she graduated from the Lynchburg School of Cosmetology in 1946. She was the owner and operator of the Hollywood Beauty Parlor in Blackstone, VA for many years.
Fledia was united in holy matrimony to L. McKinley Woodson on October 17, 1953. They were blessed with four children.
She was a Charter Member of Bethune Chapter #224, Order of Eastern Star of Virginia, PHA.
After her retirement she spent her remaining years devoted to her family and to her community. She was a champion of compassion for others-always putting others before herself.
Fledia was a jovial, hardworking, God fearing woman who knew the values of perseverance, and the importance of keeping a spiritual focus. She loved to laugh and fellowship with others.
Surrounded by family, God welcomed Fledia to her eternal home on Saturday, June 8, 2013.
