Evelyn Lee Hamlin-Hawkes was called home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2010 in Glen Burnie, MD. Evelyn was born in Mannboro, VA in Amelia County on September 18, 1931 to the late John Francis Hamlin and Sallie Beth Brown-Hamlin. She was one of nine children.
Evelyn gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was educated in the Amelia County Public Schools.
Evelyn was married to the late Jesse James Hawkes on January 17, 1949. They were married for forty-one years until his death on February 8, 1991. Out of this bond eight children were born.
Preceding her in death were seven siblings. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: five sons, Jesse Lee (Gloria), Reverend Kenneth Randolph (Angelyn), Don Sylvester (Brenda) of Dinwiddie, VA, Deacon Bryant Anthony (Jacquelyn) and Vincent Lamont Hawkes of Blackstone, VA; three daughters, Carolyn Louise Williams (Joshua) of Quinton, VA, Mary Sue Tucker (Larry) of Colonial Heights, VA, and Viola Denise Person (Thurman) of Glen Burnie, MD; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; two in-law grandchildren; one (babysister) Mamie Hamlin-Booker of Amelia County; one brother-in-law, Napoleon Hawkes; four sisters-in-law, Lobelia Hawkes-Breland of Baltimore, MD, Frances and Clara Hawkes of Blackstone, VA and Alice Hamlin of Amelia County; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 28, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Funeral Services Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Branches Runn Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
