Obituary for Evelyn A. Friend
Evelyn Ann Friend, daughter of the late John and Marie Booker Friend was born April 8, 1950 in Blackstone, VA. She departed this life on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond, VA.
Evelyn was baptized at an early age and joined Mt. Level Baptist Church. She attended and graduated from Luther H. Foster High School. She later received an Associates Degree in Administrative Support from Southside Virginia Community College.
Evelyn was a Correctional Officer at Lunenburg Correctional Center. She enjoyed being with her family. Even though she only had one biological daughter, she was truly a mother to so many. She effortlessly and selflessly gave of herself to others. She was a woman of few words, but of enormous strength. She loved the outdoors, cooking and watching her favorite TV shows.
Evelyn is survived by one daughter, Khadijah Johnson of Goochland, VA; son-in-law, Joseph Johnson, III; grandchildren, Joseph Johnson IV and Josiah Johnson; one brother, George Friend of Blackstone, VA; three sisters, Ellen Smith of Washington, NC, Josephine Green of Richmond, VA and Annie Mae Friend of New York, NY; brother-in-law, Ben Smith of Washington, NC; nieces, Maria Friend of Henrico, VA and Deborah Jennings of Georgia; grand niece, Simya Jennings; nephews, James Jennings (his children, Antonio, Tremaine and Tia Jennings) and Anthony Friend of New York, NY; oldest living cousin, Dr. Edmonia T. Yates of Baltimore, MD and her children, Joseph Yates, Jr. and Patricia Yates; and a host of loved ones and family friends.
