Obituary for Evelyn L. Harris
Evelyn L. Harris, the youngest of six siblings, was born July 8, 1927 in Richmond, Virginia to Jeff D. and Emma G. Wilson. On Friday, January 29, 2021, while at her daughter Viola’s home, she was called home to rest, and arrived at her heavenly destination where she was welcomed by many of her relatives.

Evelyn accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at Brick Church (now known as Liberty Baptist Church). She loved praising the Lord and giving thanks for all he had done for her.

She was a homemaker, and the neighborhood baby sitter, sitting on the front porch watching out, smoking those Bailey cigarettes and don’t forget the telephone (smile).

On December 4, 1948, she married Joel A. Harris, Jr. and to this union five children were born: Alice, Viola, Samuel, Franklin and Donna.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff D. and Emma Wilson; her husband, Joel Harris, Jr.; and two sons, Samuel A. Harris and Franklin R. Harris.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: her three daughters, Alice and Donna of Richmond, Virginia and Viola of Amelia, Virginia; devoted son-in-law, James E. Booker, Jr.; grandchildren, Juliane (Boyce), Jennifer (William), LaFonda, Michael, Elisa, Jasmine and Jordan; great grandchildren, DeMontre, Amari, Meagan and Chelsey; one great-great grandchild, Serenity; one adopted grandson, Reverend Emmanuel Hyde, III; a sister-in-law, Mable Harris; special cousins, Eliza, Estelle and Harrison; devoted friends, Mary Jasper, Della Bannister, William Mondrey (Lois), Gloria Williams (Jennifer), Elder Charles White (Sabrina); Helen Bannister (Joann and Amy), Lois Hayes, Thomas (Ann); Reverend Everette (Ann); nieces, one special Anna Hayes, nephews, cousins and friends.
