Obituary for Evangelist Rebecca L. Hopkins
Rebecca Louise Jones was born August 26, 1918 in Scotland Neck, N.C., to John Thomas and Betsy Lee Clark Jones.
Rebecca moved to Virginia and married Douglas Montgomery Hopkins Sr., who preceded her in death. They raised nine children, 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great–great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one brother, Henry Jones, two grandchildren, Jason and Warren, and one great-grand daughter, Triniti-Star.
While in Portsmouth, Va., Rebecca became an Evangelist of God. Rebecca took heed to the words of the Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 4. She nourished herself in the words of faith and was an example to believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity. She gave attention to reading, to exhortation, and to doctrine of the Word of God. She mediated on these things daily, giving herself entirely to them. Rebecca truly was a virtuous woman of God. She spread not only the Word of God, but the Love of God to everyone she encountered.
Later, Evangelist Hopkins moved to Crewe, Va. She was a faithful member of The Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. She enjoyed going to church, reading her Bible, spending time with her family and friends, caring for her two Collies, Sandy and Candy, sharing stories of her childhood and working in her garden.
Evangelist Hopkins went to be with her Lord May 23, 2010 at her home in Crewe, Va. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters Vernetha Hart of Virginia and Annie Williams of N.C., and two brothers, Clarence Lee Jones of Maryland and Louis Jones, nine children, Juanita (Herbert) Anderson of Virginia, Geraldine Bullock of Virginia, Whilemenia Williams of Virginia, Douglas M. Hopkins, Jr. (Collete) of Florida, Barry Hopkins of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth (Jan) Williams of Washington D.C., Harriet (Karl-Erik) Johansson of Sweden, Linda (Herman) Jones of Washington D.C., and John Thomas Hopkins of Virginia, 16 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren, 1 great- great- grandchild and spiritual children Elijah and Saundra Thornton and Estelle Eppes.
