Obituary for Eva O. Johnson
Eva Olivia Bass was born April 10, 1928 in Crewe, VA to parents William and Eva Scott Bass.  Eva was the youngest of seven children.  Leon, William, Harry, Garnette, Marjorie and Tralve all preceded her in death.
Eva met and married Lee Roy Neal, Sr., to this union three children were born, Leon, Lee Roy Jr., and Valerie.  Upon her marriage to Lee Roy she relocated to Gary, IN.  He preceded her in death.  Following the tragedy of an automobile accident and his untimely death she moved to Detroit to be with her oldest brother, Leon.  It was this brother who introduced her to one of his friends John Henry Johnson, Sr.  He was also suffering from a recent tragedy, the loss of his first wife and three children in a house fire.  Eva married John Henry and to this union three children were born, Elaine, Carol and John Jr.  She felt their tragedies united them and ultimately led them to share over thirty-six years of many victories together.  He also preceded her in death.
Eva was educated in a Virginia county public school system, where her mother was her math teacher.  She loved cooking, sewing and caring for her family.  She enjoyed baking and was especially known for her homemade rolls.
Eva cared for her children, the children of their friends, all of her grandchildren, and so many others.  Eva joined Miller Memorial Church of God in Christ where she was a faithful member and remained until her death.  She was honored when her pastor, Bishop Earl J. Wright, Sr., appointed her to the Mother's Board because she saw it as a servant's position.
Eva was well loved and appreciated.  Her life was a living example.  She was a devoted daughter, the epitome of a wife and an excellent and nurtuting mother.  She mentored many.
She loved her children and they adored her.  She shared with them many teaching moments through her pearls of wisdom.  One of her frequent sayings to them was, "Right is right and wrong is wrong, no matter who does it".
Hearing the voice of the Lord on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 5:50 p.m., surrounded by her children she peacefully and victoriously answered His call.  Mother Eva leaves a Legacy of Love.  To rejoice in her memory, Leon (Kathy) Neal, Lee Roy (Vicky) Neal, Valerie (Edward "Don") Harris of Middlesburg, FL, Elaine P. (Earl Jr.) Wright, Carol (Obbie) Jackson, John Jr. (Sanae) Johnson, Gloria Johnson-Perry of Birmingham, AL, Joe (JoAnn) Joiner of Evanston, IL.  Grandchildren:  LaNesha (David) Tanner, LaShanda Harris, Edward Harris II, Sarita Neal, Leon Neal II, Earl Wright III, SaDiesha Johns, Domeneque Perry, Edmund Wright, Joel Neal, BiJan Dees, Jabrielle Johnson, Obbie Jackson II, Trishton Jackson, Jacob Johnson and Ashton Johnson.  Fifteen great grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
