Obituary for Eva F. Johnson
This is to certify that another servant of God, Mrs. Eva Fitzgerald Johnson slipped away in death on June 16, 2008. Her gentle sweet ways as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a friend, has impressed us in such a way that we will never forget her. We shall forever praise God for the days she was with us.
She was born in Nottoway County to the late Thomas Fitzgerald and Bertha Fitzgerald Eppes. Baptized under the leadership of the Reverend L.A. Wilson and became a faithful member of the Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, her years of service to the church was her greatest joy. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Missionary, Pastor Aide Member, Member of the Choir for many, many years and also in the Deaconess Ministry. She served as Secretary and President of the Ebenezer Association and its Allied Bodies, Secretary of the Poplar Lawn Sunday School Union and Past National President of Jones Family Reunion Chapters of Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Philadelphia and Washington for many years. During her years of service, her favorite saying was, “If only I can help somebody in someway”. Her educational background was from the Mt. Gazerine Elementary School, Nottoway High School, and Cunningham Beauty College in Richmond. Courses from VA State University and Religious Courses from Lynchburg College.
She was Past Matron of Bethune Chapter #224, Order of Eastern Star of Virginia, P.H.A.
In the year of 1949, she united in marriage to the late Mr. Francis C. Johnson, God blessed this union with two children, Connie and Keith.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter Mrs. Connie J. Scott, a loving son Mr. Keith C. Johnson, Sr., four loving grandchildren Lee F. Scott, Jr., Shiras Scott Craig (Walter), Keith C. Johnson, Jr., and Bradley C. Johnson, Two great-grandchildren Shadiaman and Trevian Craig, two sisters Inez Tucker and Lacy Cooke, one devoted son-in-law Lee F. Scott, Sr., one daughter-in-law Cheryl Johnson, one brother-in-law, six sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
