Obituary for Eva A. Fowlkes
EVA ADELLE TUCKER FOWLKES entered eternal rest and peace on November 19, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Midlothian, VA. She was born in Nottoway County, Virginia on May 24, 1926 to the late Samuel W. Tucker and Eva Greenhill Tucker. She was the 7th out of 10 children. Her husband, Alphonso, and daughter, Eva Lorraine, preceded her in death.
Eva attended and graduated from the Nottoway County school system. At an early age she accepted the Lord as her savior and joined the Springhill Baptist Church. On December 24, 1945, she married Alphonso Jackson Fowlkes. God blessed this union with five children. On April 23, 1978, she joined Poplar Lawn Baptist Church under the pastorage of Reverend Johnson where she continued to worship until her death. Eva served as Vice President of the Deaconess and was actively involved in the church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Treasurer, and assisted the Hospitality Committee. She was always ready to do whatever she could for her church and community. Eva will always be remembered for her loving and caring support for others.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters and son-in-laws, Anna (Dr. Rev. Freeman) Rhoades of Tacoma, WA, Sandra (Jessie) King of Clinton, MD, and Pauline (Gregory) Whirley of Chesterfield, VA; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerome (Lisa) Fowlkes of South Riding, VA; 13 grandchildren, Belinda, Sidney, Roberta, Jessie Jr., Adrian, Nathan, Stacey, Jennifer, Gregory Jr., Duane, Brandon, Andrew, and Kevin; 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; one sister, Fannie Rather of Temple Hills, MD; five sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws, Mildred Favors of Newark, NJ, Portia Hobbs and Alma Tucker of Blackstone, VA, Juanita Tucker of Baltimore, MD, Cloyd Fowlkes (Ruby) of Williamsburg, VA, Harold Fowlkes of Blackstone, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She will be missed and fondly remembered.
The family will visit with friends Monday, November 23, 2009 at the funeral home from 6 until 7 p.m.
Funeral Services Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
