Obituary for Ethel Marie Roy
Ethel Marie Roy, 80 of Blackstone, Virginia passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021. She was born December 28, 1940 in Blackstone, Virginia to Aubrey and Sarah Jones Yates.
Ethel accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a faithful member at Cellar Creek Baptist Church, Blackstone, Virginia. She served the Lord with gladness in spirit and songs. Ethel was a member of the Gospel Chorus and also a member of the Blackstone Community Chorus.
Ethel was educated in the Nottoway County School System and graduated from Luther H. Foster High School.
After graduating, Ethel moved to Washington, DC where she lived and worked for Capital Hill Hospital. After twenty years, she returned home where she worked and retired from Chippenham Hospital as an Instrument Tech. She loved to care for the elderly and other that needed help.
Ethel loved her family. She also loved to sing, dance and enjoy life until her last days.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Sarah Jones Yates; two sisters, Rozelia Hardy and Shirbley Jean Carey; and a brother, Roger Yates. She leaves the cherish her life: a sister, Lucille Campbell, whom she talked to every day until death; two brothers, James Yates (Elsie) and Rudolph Yates (Stephanie); brother-in-law, Nick Carey; a niece, Monica Hazelwood Frisby whom she loved like a daughter; a goddaughter, Tamia Garnett; nieces, nephews and their children.
Graveside Services Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Cellar Creek Baptist Church, Blackstone.
