Obituary for Ethel Holmes
We would like to announce the home going of one of God’s Angels, Ethel Holmes. Ethel, daughter of the late Arthur and Addie Akers was born January 25, 1936.
Ethel became ill in March of this year and for six months she endured numerous hospital stays. Ethel departed this life on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Novent Health in Manassas, VA. She passed quietly and peacefully at the age of 79.
Ethel was baptized at the age of twelve. She rededicated her life to Christ on July 27, 1997. She was a spiritual woman who never lost faith.
Ethel always had a smile on her face. No matter how she was feeling, she always asked “how you doing baby.” She has touched the lives of many. She gave love and she received love. If she had it, then that meant you had it. She was quick to crack a joke, cut a step and tell a story. She loved to cook and she enjoyed listening to music. Ethel was happiest when she spent time with her family and friends.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Will Holmes; three brothers, Calvin, James and Robert Akers; and two sisters-in-law, Loretta Akers and Martha Lee. She leaves to cherish her memories: her four children and their spouses, Nadine and Clifton Johnson of Virginia, Will and Candace Holmes of Virginia, Calvin and Debbie Blackwell of North Carolina, and Joan Warren of Virginia; her stepson, Rodney Holmes of North Carolina; one brother, Percy Akers; sister-in-law, Margie Akers; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; fifteen nieces; six nephews; other relatives and friends.
