Obituary for Esther M. Fitzgerald
Esther Elizabeth Megginson Fitzgerald, of Blackstone, VA transitioned to be with Lord on December 28, 2022. Born and raised in Nottoway County, she was the daughter of Reverend John and Mildred Megginson. She was in preceded in death by husband, Clifton H. Fitzgerald, Sr., daughter, Deborah F. Wright and grandson, Taurean S. Wright.
Esther was educated in the Nottoway County School System and was a member of the Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, (Reverend Dr. Irene Allen). She frequently attended Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. In June 1951, Esther was united in marriage to the late Clifton H. Fitzgerald, Sr. in New York City.
Esther was a devoted, dedicated, loyal and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend. Her spirit was filled with love, kindness, and forgiveness.
Esther had the pleasure of traveling to several European Countries. She and received a thank-you letter from former President Barack Obama for a poem written to him, earlier in his Presidency.
Esther was a member of the Eastern Star Order # 224. She found joy in reading the Bible, writing, reciting poetry, sketching, telling the Johnson- Megginson Family’s history and being a “fashionista”
Esther’s memories are left with sons, Jessie S. King (Sandra) of Clinton, MD, Clifton H. Fitzgerald Jr. (Sandra) of Norfolk, VA, daughters, Beverly D. Fitzgerald, and Hattie F. Whittle both of Blackstone VA, and Mildred F. Taylor of Fort Washington, MD. Esther also leaves sister, Gladys M. Hamilton (James) of Oxon Hill, MD, brother-in-law, Bennie W. Fitzgerald (Valerie) of Camp Springs, MD. She was light to her twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-children, a host of nieces and nephews. Also, neighbors, Leslie M. McKinley, Jr, Wilmer Spruill and Family and Mr. Jerry Phelps.

Funeral Service Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
