Obituary for Ernest L. Marshall
Ernest Lafayette Marshall, the youngest of six children of the late Willie Stanley and LaVerne Jones Marshall, peacefully transitioned to his new home on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the residence of his sister Sarah Farmer (Van) in Sutherland, VA, where he had resided five years. Ernest is survived by his estranged wife, Sandra Boatwright; son, Kwamaine (Elizabeth), and step-daughter, Tomeka; his brothers--Theodore Stanley (Mary), Howard Jayfus(Glennis), and Orlander Jerome (Brenda); his sisters--Sarah Ruth (Van), and Fleta LaPrade (James); nephews--Anthony Epps (Vikki), Howard Marshall, Jr. (Javon), A’Darryl Marshall; nieces--Stacey Marshall, Jayfonia DeLoatch (James), and Jayné Raines (Jeremy); nine great-nephews, one great-niece and a host of cousins and friends to include a sister-like cousin, Emma Johnson and Angie Ward, a special and devoted friend. Ernest and three of his buddies called themselves “the Road Dogs”--Harry Hawkes, Vincent Hawkes, and Edward Henderson. Later David Pollard joined the crew. Last, but not least, Juliet Winfield (Ms. Judy), Ernest’s dedicated caregiver and buddy for almost five years.

Ernest was born June 12, 1964 in Blackstone, VA and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. He graduated from Nottoway High School. He worked several jobs with the most recent being a maintenance supervisor at Virginia Methodist Assembly Center. He was really a “jack of all trades” or some might say a superb “handy man”. Ernest was a gifted carpenter and enjoyed lawn care. He passionately helped the elderly and desired no recognition. Ernest enjoyed cooking on the grill, fishing, bowling, and car racing. He listened to a variety of non-stop music. One of his favorite songs was “Heaven on My Mind” by Luther Barnes.

Ernest was well loved and he loved you back!
