Obituary for Eric Lee Yancey
Deacon Elect Eric Lee Yancey departed this life on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at home with his family. He was born February 9, 1966 in Blackstone to Barbara Yancey and Robert Hardy. He was the first of three children.

Eric attended Nottoway County public schools and graduated with the class of ‘87. He was baptized at an early age. For the past four years he has been a disciple of Empowering Word Ministry, under the spiritual leadership of Pastor S.C. Mills, Sr., where he rededicated his life to Christ and served as Deacon-Elect until failing health prevented him from attending regularly.

Eric was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Sherri in 2006 and his brother Michael in 2011.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother Barbara Yancey of Blackstone; his stepfather, Robert Hardy of Blackstone; one brother, Carroll Yancey of Pittsburgh, PA; one goddaughter, Roscell Yancey of Norfolk, VA; one stepson, Eric Jones of Blackstone; his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jones and family of Blackstone; two devoted aunts, Mae Trotter and Mary Yancey, both of Baltimore, MD; three lifelong special friends, Wanda Ward, Laura Anderson and Samuel Mills all of Nottoway County; a host of nieces, nephews, other devoted family members and friends.

His calm, caring, humble demeanor, and his love for God was evident in his daily life. Though he had dealt with illness most of his life, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who heard him complain. He was a loving and faithful son, brother, uncle, father and friend.
He will be dearly missed by many.

Funeral Services Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, Blackstone. Interment Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
