Obituary for Elwood Epps
Elwood was the fourth child and the second son of seven born to Deacon Sidney and Deaconess Julia Jefferson Epps. He was born on March 16, 1948 in Amelia, VA.
Elwood’s education was in Amelia County schools. He liked to sing, it was one of his gifts. He sang with the choir of the church and later joined “Chosen Few”, a gospel group.
He also liked to work with his hands. He loved to build and he did; he owned E&R Construction for thirty years. He made sidewalks, porches, car garages, etc. Elwood also loved horseback riding, having fun and making people laugh.
On November 1, 1970, Elwood met Rosa, the love of his life. They shared a devoted life together.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth; brothers, Irvin and Raymond (infant).
He is survived by devoted love one, Rosa; daughter, Nichelle Atkinson (Nicky); step daughters, Sharon (Carl) Jackson and Angela (Arnold) Barringer; three grandchildren, Brandi Atkinson, Kristian Raisn and Maia Kincell; great grandchildren, Melasia Atkinson and Khloe Rains; step grandchildren, Brittney Jackson, Chelsea Jackson, Jordan Robinson; sisters, Margaret Forte, Mildred Lockhart (Henry) and Mary Hansboro (Lawrence); sisters-in-law, Doris Epps and Lois Haynes; two aunts, Mamie Archer and Dora Epps; uncle, Lawrence Owens; devoted friend, Deacon Elwood Royal; a host of nieces, nephews, acquaintances and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Promise Land Baptist Church, Amelia. Interment church cemetery.
