Obituary for Elsie A. Fowlkes
On December 18, 1925, Elsie A. Andrew was born to Eloise Andrew and Carl Nottingham in Cape Charles, VA (they both preceded her in death). She departed her life on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her daughters residence in Augusta, GA.
Ms. Elsie successfully completed the prescribed course of study at Hickory Grove Elementary School in Crewe, VA, Nottoway County.
Later in life she was married to McDonald Fowlkes, Sr, who predeceased her in January 1985. from this union four children were born.
Ms. Elsie worked several jobs in life: a cook and a waitress at the YMCA and Paris Inn Restaurant and later retired as a secretary for Jennings Tractor Service. She loved people and moreover, she loved her family unconditionally and was very proud of each of them.
Cherishing her loving memories are two daughters, Carletha Fowlkes Fowlkes (Frank) of Augusta, GA and Grace V. Benn (Bobby) of Blackstone, VA; grandchildren, Ronald, Frank Jr., and Dwayne Fowlkes, Falicia Fowlkes Lovett, Jace Van Sylk, Tyree Jones, Tiffany Benn Watson, Jazzmeen Benn, Tamika Dodson, Shelby, Nickie and Rudy Dickerson; four sisters, Joanne, Janie, Betty of Cape Charles, VA and Dorothy of Lehigh Acres, FL; one brother, John A. Lawhorne of Nachitoches, LA; one brother-in-law, Percy Scott of Trenton, NJ; one sister-in-law, Shirley Brown of Temple Hill, MD; very dear friends whom she frequently calls, Mrs. Willie Mae Dobson and daughter Sharon; and a host of great grandchildren, Nephews, nieces and friends.
