Obituary for Ellen Pearl Taylor
ELLEN PEARL TAYLOR (Pearl Taylor) was the second oldest of five children born to the late Anna Mildred and Willie Taylor on October 29, 1929. on December 28, 2010 at 6:50 p.m. she was called home to be with her heavenly family. Ellen was well known and loved by her family and community.
Ellen attended Nottoway County Training School. She started working at the age of twelve for a local restaurant. As an adult her career started with AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Services) on the Fort Pickett military base, later transferring to Fort Lee where she retired. Because she believed in thriving, she continued working for Mayflower Inn of Blackstone as well as Gibson Restaurant. Though she took pride in her work, she relished in the friendships she developed over time.
Ellen was devoted to her family and took pride in raising her children and grandchildren. She made sure everyone had what was needed to be successful. Anyone that came in contact with her knew that she would give her last to the person that needed it most. There was never a time that she looked down on anyone. She took good care of everyone’s children at some point or another in their lives. She was the community mom, friend, and confidant to us all.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Anna Mildred and Willie Taylor; four brothers, Archer, Frank, Beverly and Charles; and her son, Harold (Snookie). She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter, Anna Pearl Jesters of Virginia; son, William Taylor (Mary) of North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Mildred, Vera, and Mary; devoted friend, Joe Pettus and devoted cousins, Grace Spencer and Sadie Lucas which came to visit daily; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbors; a very devoted caretaker and companion, her granddaughter, Renauta Jesters and her son for many years; a very dedicated cousin and hairdresser, Ilean Maxwell. In recent years, she acquired some more children and grandechildren that she called her own, Anthony (Butter) Rather, Troy Elder, Leon Abbott, James (Jimmy) Hayes, Linda Ramsey, Shirley Lee, William (Buckwheat) Barrett, Thomas (Top Cat) Bragg, James Blount, Johnny Cousin, Shomonique and Desirae Jones, Razonte’, Daquan and Tariq MacFarland, Holly and Cameron Brown, Tarshia and Shaundea Dance. She will be greatly missed by everyone but best of all she will always watch over us from heaven as she did on earth. We Love You, we miss you and you will stay in our memories forever.
Funeral Services Saturday, January 8, 2011 from Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
