Obituary for Elizabeth F. Bland
ELIZABETH F. BLAND departed this life on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, VA. She was the only daughter of the late Willie and Agnes Coleman.
She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, William E. Fowlkes and Deacon Alex Bland, a twin brother, William Coleman, brothers, Jessie L. Coleman and Joseph Coleman, a step brother, Lawrence Trader, Sr. and step daughter, Mrs. Osie Coleman.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one brother, James N. Coleman of Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Blackstone, VA; two daughters, Mary F. Jackson and Alma Smith (Clarence-(Hambone) of Blackstone, VA; one stepson, James (Rosa) Fowlkes of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Jacqueline, Qemaun and Nicole (Dwayne); five great grandchildren, Kimoni, Latrel, Aaron, Deante and Jacquell; two step grandchildren, Mary L. Coleman and Richard Coleman; one step great grandchild, Teri (Michelle); along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She had many friends with whom she shared her kindness and wisdom.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She worshipped with the Little Mount Baptist Church as a Deaconess for several years. She was associated with the Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She later moved her membership to the Shiloh Baptist Church, Dinwiddie where she was a faithful member until her failing health. She loved her family, her church family and her friends.
She served as a childcare provider for the nursery of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Blackstone, VA for over twenty years. She was well loved and appreciated for her dedication and service.
Her daughters affectionately called her “Old Girl” and her church members called her “Moma”. Her testimonies and words of wisdom were encouraging to all. She loved her hats and wore them proudly.
Family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 10th from 6 to 7 p.m.
Funeral Services Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Shiloh Dinwiddie Baptist Church, Dinwiddie with interment in the church cemetery.
