Obituary for Eleanor M. Fowlkes
Eleanor Michelle Fowlkes, daughter of Pauline Drayton and the late Frank Drayton was born May 2, 1963 in New York. At an early age, Eleanor, known to most as “Ellie”, “Dee” or “Ma” received Christ as her Savior at Timothy Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY. In the early 80’s, Eleanor moved to Virginia where she met and married Curtis Fowlkes, Sr., he preceded her in death. During their union they had three wonderful sons, Curtis Jr., Tyrone and Justice Fowlkes. In 1996, she was blessed with her beautiful baby girl Stephanie Ward.
While in Virginia, she joined Prospect Baptist Church in Blackstone. She attended Nottoway High School and immediately began her career in nursing. Eleanor enjoyed working with the elderly and taking care of everyone. Up until she could not physically handle it, she gave her all and dedicated her time to teaching and caring for anyone in need, especially her grandchildren.
Eleanor leaves behind three sons, Curtis (LaTisha), Tyrone and Justice, Sr.; one daughter, Stephanie (Johnny); seven adored grandchildren, Amaja’ Lewis, Khaleel Fowlkes, Olivia Fowlkes, Cameron Fowlkes, Ezekiel Ward, Justice Fowlkes, Jr., and Jaliyah Ward. She also leaves behind her mother, Pauline Drayton; brother, William Peets; mother-in-law, Lacy Fowlkes; her in -laws, Brenda (Earl) Rather, Barbara (James) Hill, Carolyn Stewart and Robert (Carolyn) Fowlkes; three God daughters, Kenisha Allen, Dasha Davis and Janice Barbour; four honorary grandchildren, Adonias Love, Rodkel Fowlkes, Elijah Ward and Candalise Love. We must not forget a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. To complete her puzzle, Eleanor valued her loving and devoted friend, Caesar Love, Sr.
