Obituary for Eleanor Chaffin
God’s grace and mercy was strongly bestowed upon Eleanor Chaffin the morning of June 28, 2015 at 7:20 a.m. when she departed this life at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City.
Eleanor was the sixth child of twelve children born to Willie Chaffin, Sr. and Allie Jennings Chaffin of Victoria, VA on August 18, 1932.
Affectionately called Nora by her family and close friends, she loved the Lord and accepted him at an early age.  Nora was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and remained a faithful member even when she joined Greater Refuge Temple in New York City.
Nora was a 1951 graduate of Lunenburg High School and migrated north like so many of her classmates making her home in New York City.  She loved the city with all of it’s hustle and bustle and enjoyed working as a seamstress for many years until her health failed.
Eleanor was known by her Riverside Community as a very quiet, pleasant, and friendly person who always spoke to them and went to church every Sunday.  She was known for sitting and reading the New York Post or the Daily Record and enjoying a hot cup of Dunkin Donuts Coffee every morning.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Allie Chaffin, Sr.; three brothers, Willie Chaffin, Jr., Learoyal and Russell Chaffin; one brother-in-law, Wilber Haywood; two sisters-in-law, Mary Randle Chaffin and Sallie Jenkins Chaffin.
She leaves to cherish the memories of her life: seven brothers, Garfield (Marie) Chaffin of Crewe, VA; Eddie Chaffin, Sr. of Burkeville, VA; Davis Chaffin of Petersburg, VA; Cloyd (Cleo) Chaffin, Eugene (Rosa) Chaffin, Walter (Donna) Chaffin and Waverly (Louise) Chaffin all of Victoria, VA; one devoted sister, Lillie Mae Chaffin of Victoria, VA; two devoted nieces Shirley “Cookie” Chaffin of Crewe, VA and Deloris Ward of Oxon Hill, MD; a devoted friend, Mama Rose Williams of New York City, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Victoria with interment in the church cemetery.  Family will greet friends 1 hour prior to services.

W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
