Obituary for Edith M. Blackwell
SISTER EDITH MARIE EDMONDS BLACKWELL (Ree), our loved one entered into eternal rest at her residence on Monday, June 4, 2012. Edith, daughter of the late Ruby Edmonds, was born in Brunswick County on August 11, 1941.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Roy L. Blackwell, Sr. on November 14, 1959. To this union three bundles of joy were born.
Edith was baptized at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Lunenburg County. Later she joined Little Mount Baptist Church in Brunswick County. At Little Mount Baptist Church, she worked faithfully and diligently as a Missionary and a door keeper (usher) for over twenty years.
During her time of employment, she worked at Levi Strauss, Blackstone for over seventeen years.
Ree, Aunt Eddy, Miss Ree as she was affectionately called, left a legacy of “Love”, displayed in her daily life by nurturing the needs of her husband, children, grandchildren and the community. She loved to cook and sew. Potato Salad was her specialty. Edith was very fond of children. With all the love she had for family and friends, it was so evident that she gave God the glory and expressed her joy in knowing God as her deliverer and provider.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Blackwell; a sister, Roberta Rhoades; brother-in-law, Robert Maddux. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: a devoted husband of fifty-two years, Roy L. Blackwell, Sr.; a loving daughter, Helen (Alphus) a loving son, Roy Jr.; three grandchildren, Naquita Marie Bassfield, Alphus Maurice Bassfield and Shelah Ann Bassfield, all of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Katherine (Bazil) Fitzgerald and Elsie Maddux; one brother, Eddie (Christine) Edmonds; two aunts, Ann Hunn of Baltimore, MD and Edith Anderson of Washington, DC; brother-in-law, Tom Rhoades; a host of devoted and faithful nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sister Blackwell will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
