Obituary for Easter J. Stokes
Esther Thelma Johnson Stokes departed this life on January 7, 2008. Daughter of the late Delilah (Della) and Dorsey Johnson, she was born in Nottoway County, Virginia on April 4, 1926. She attended school in Nottoway County. At a young age she joined Poplar Lawn Baptist Church. After moving to Richmond, she became a member of Swansboro Baptist Church. Easter had a “green thumb”, she loved indoor and outdoor flowers. She could always be found picking around in her flower garden. Over the years she won several “Yard of the Month” awards. She is survived by her five children, Thelma S. Johnson of Richmond, VA, Benjamin J. Stokes, III of Durham, NC, Catherine Stokes of Midlothian, VA, Michael Stokes of Hampton, VA and Timothy Stokes of Midlothian, VA; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. from Hawkes Funeral Home chapel, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
