Obituary for Earl Wilburn Brown

Earl Brown was born on September 23, 1933 in Powhatan County to Harry ‘Bill’ and Annie Lucille Brown. The eldest of ten siblings, he peacefully transitioned from this life to eternal rest on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at his home.

At an early age, Earl was baptized at Second Antioch Baptist Church. He embarked on a career as a long-haul truck driver for WACO Insulation, a role he dedicated himself to until his retirement in the late 1990s. Unwavering in his entrepreneurial spirit, Earl alongside his brother Edward and cousin Billy, established a thriving landscaping business. He later founded Brown Refuse and Sanitation service. After selling the company, his passion for entrepreneurship remained evident as he continued to serve a select group of loyal customers and family.

In his later years, Earl found solace and enjoyment in tinkering with various projects in his shed. He had a deep love for cars and trucks, meticulously maintaining each vehicle. His loyal group of friends, several of whom he had employed throughout his career, often gathered at his side. Earl was a pillar of strength for his family, always willing to help anyone in need.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his father and mother, Harry and Annie Lucille Brown respectively; his brothers, Wallace and Willie and a sister Mary. He leaves to cherish his memories: his step daughter, Gloria (Alvin) Brown; step-grandchildren, Tamika Brown, Michael Brown, Erica Brown; step great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Reyes, and Cameron Hill; three sisters, Florence Christian, Elsie Walton, Lillie Robinson; three brothers, Bobby, James, and Claude (Shirley); sister-in-law, Shirley Booker Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Earl treasured his life-long friendships with Franklin Jackson, William Eggleston, and Wallace Jones.

A quiet and gentle soul, Earl was loved by all who knew him.
