Born the third eldest to Willie and Estelle Hicks on March 18, 1950, Earl Eugene Hicks entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
Earl accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church. Until his health failed, he was a member of the Gravel Hill Men’s Choir, Trustee and Usher boards. He did not take lightly the role of a Trustee as he performed many labor-intensive tasks for the Church. Earl attended Nottoway High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1971.
On February 14, 1994, Earl was united in Holy Matrimony to Floria Haskins. He was a faithful and dedicated husband. Through this union he gained a bonus son, Tyrice Haskins, who preceded him in death.
He was no stranger to work, retiring from HOPE Community Services Assistance Programs, the successor to Central Piedmont Action Council (C-PAC) in 2012 after thirty-five plus years of service. His employment with HOPE, furthered Earl’s love of servicing others as he was able to assist homeowners in Amelia, Buckingham, Cumberland, Nottaway, Lunenburg and Prince Edward counties. He always found an opportunity to help others. He considered it his duty to do good deeds for others and encouraged those that he helped, to return the favor, and help others.
Earl enjoyed farming. He had a passion for helping others, singing, and fishing. But his absolute love was hunting. He would often tell family and friends, “Catch me before November.”
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Estelle Hicks, his brother, Hubert Hicks, his sisters, Estelle Sims and Rosa Hicks, and a niece, Tonya Bland. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Floria; bonus grandchildren Sha’Dymon Blanton and TyVondre Haskins, whom he provided fatherly love, Ty’Aundra Harris, Brandon and Cameron Haskins; four sisters, Martha (Gerald) Bland, Elsie (Mack) Robinson, Mae (Arthur) Miller, Gertrude Hicks; two brothers, William Hicks, Willie Hicks, Jr.; one Aunt, Annie Mae Watson; five sister in-laws, Geraldine (Willie) Peace, Nancy (Joseph) Saunders, Phillistene Jefferson, Joann Pettis, Laurette Tucker; and a host of nieces, one devoted, TaKisha Bland, nephews, cousins and friends.
