Obituary for Earl Augustus Wynn
Earl Augustus Wynn was the sixth child born on July 30, 1916 to the union of George and Charlotte (Bridgeforth) Wynn in Blackstone, VA.  On February 25, 2008 he slipped peacefully away to his heavenly home.Earl received his formal education  at Nottoway County public schools.  After completing the 10th grade, he went to work for the Blackstone Milling Company as a truck driver for more than 30 years.  He loved to tell stories about his days driving the truck and being able to outsmart the police to keep from getting speeding tickets as he hauled his load south.  Also, he loved to tell stories about when he chauffeured the owner of the mill and his family to Florida in their brand new black automobile. At an early age, Earl attended Sunday School and was baptized at Springhill Baptist Church. In the early 1940's, Earl met the love of his life, Doris Hobbs at the old homestead (now known as Camp Pickett) where many families once resided.  In 1942, Earl married Doris and from this union three children were born, Vernard, Earl and Joyce.Earl had a close relationship with God.  He was affectionately called Uncle Earl by his nieces and nephews. He leaves to cherish his loving memory:  three children, Vernard Wynn (Yvonne), Val Jean Wynn Dawkins (Tommy) and a devoted son, Earl Wynn (Njambi); one grandson, Vincent Dawkins; a loving sister, Ruth Eppes; one sister-in-law, Edith Wynn; a devoted nephew, Lloyd Wynn (Sonny Boy) residing in Germany; a devoted niece, Barbara (Sissy) Gross; a special cousin, Marie Bridgeforth Fitzgerald; the world's greatest barber and friend, Adolphus (Junnie) Hawkes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 1, 2008 from Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of the arrangements.
