Obituary for Douglas M. Harris
Douglas MacArthur Harris of Amelia, Virginia entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the age of 63. He was born on November 24, 1950, the youngest child of the late Joseph and Vera Ruffin Harris.
Douglas was baptized at an early age at Flower Hill Baptist Church. Douglas, fondly known as Dougie, loved his books and writing, especially letters to his family. He enjoyed fishing and every time he talked about it, the fish got bigger and his arms stretched wider. No matter how many birthdays Dougie celebrated, he was always “28” and his gift of choice was cash. Dougie loved family gatherings and no meal was eaten until Dougie had blessed it, “AMEN!” Among his favorite foods were banana pudding, Pepsi Cola, potato chips and cookies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Virginia, Olivia, Charlie, Thelma, Gertrude, Annie, Joseph Jr., and William. He is survived by his beloved niece and nephew and devoted guardians, Debra and Glen Wilkerson; his sisters, Lillian Hicks and Juanita Jones; his brother, Aubrey Harris; sisters-in-law, Louise Harris and Yvonne Harris; a host of nieces and nephews, including devoted great niece and nephew, Monica and Sean Wilkerson; lots of cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Flower Hill Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
