Obituary for Douglas Jerome Rather
On Monday, December 9, 2024, Douglas Jerome Rather, affectionately known as “Ronee”, peacefully left his earthly home and entered his heavenly home. He was born on November 1, 1943 to Carrie Shelton Rather and Woodrow Rather.
On April 11, 1997, Douglas married the apple of his eye and the cream to his coffee, Mrs. Rosalee Curley Rather.
Douglas was employed for over forty years at Bay View Hospital. On Sunday, August 27, 2017, Douglas was ordained as a Deacon and served faithfully at his church, The Blessed Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland, under the leadership of Reverend James Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five children, Larry Leak, Wayne Leak, Linda Leak, Ruby Sparkman and Raymond Sparkman; grandchild, Tiffany Leak; his siblings, Velma Rather Jeffries (Baby Sally) and William (Archie) Rather.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving brothers, Clarence “Bubba” Rather and Earl Rather Sr. (Brenda); sister-in-law, Teresa Rather; brother-in-law, Ruffus Jeffries; a daughter, Diane Rose; a son Earnest Samuels; thirty-five nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own; and a host of loving cousins and friends.
Douglas will be missed for his humble spirit,
the sound of his laughter
and the love he had for his family and friends.
