Obituary for Dorothy H. Carr
Dorothy Hanks Carr, the daughter of the late Annie Langhorne and Clyde Hanks, Sr., was born on September 19, 1923 in Crewe, VA. She was raised in Crewe and attended public school in Nottoway County.
 Dorothy had a son, the late William Rogers Hanks, Sr. (Hanks - she always called him Bill) on June 2, 1942 with Henry Mickey in Baltimore, MD. She later married Horace Carr. She lived for many years in Rochester, NY, where she was employed as a caregiver for the Odenbach famly. She worked for the family until she retired and returned to Crewe to care for her mother. At the time of her death, Dorothy was a resident at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, VA.
 Dorothy was a faithful member of the Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, in which she joined at an early age.
 On March 26, 2009, God called her soul home to rest. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her granddaughter, Felita Dorthea (Cookie) Hanks Jackson (husband, Jeff) of Woodbridge, VA; her grandson, William Rogers Hanks, Jr. (Bill) of Raleigh, NC (wife, Chante'); her daughter-in-law, Carolyn (Jean) Hanks of Raleigh, NC; two great grandchildren, Jay and Jordan Jackson; her nephew, Donald Hanks of Rochester, NY, whom she cared for like a son (wife, G.P.); niece, Shirley Hanks of Baltimore, MD; nephew, David Thomas; nieces, Lillian and Alberta; cousin, Annie; the Townes family, the Odenbach family and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Hanks Family Cemetery, Crewe.
