Obituary for Dorothy C. Love
Dorothy Campbell Love, 96 of Crewe, Va. went to be with her Lord on the evening of April 26, 2012, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Facility in Blackstone, Va. “Dot” or “Shorty” known to those who knew and loved her, was the youngest of seven children born to the late Harvey Campbell and Estelle Stokes Campbell both of Crewe, Va. on April 6, 1916. Her siblings that preceded her in death were Ola Campbell, Mable Holcomb, Telzie Norman, Claudine Love, Helen Anderson and Norman Campbell.
At an early age, Dorothy attended school in Crewe, Va. and later was baptized. Even though she was unable to attend church on a regular basis, she remained faithful to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She Later met and married her late husband William Love Jr. “Josh” of Crewe, Va. Out of this union were three children: One surviving son, Whelon Love Sr. of Crewe, Va., Woodrow Love “Pot” and Marjorie Diggs both deceased.
Dorothy worked at Camp Pickett in Blackstone during World War II and Weston’s Motel in Crewe, Va. where she retired. Much of her lifetime job included dairy farming, which she did with her late husband William “Josh”. She loved the country life, fresh air, fresh meat and fresh vegetables. This was her home.
Dorothy loved to play the piano, and would play it in a moment’s notice without hesitation for anyone that wanted to hear her play. Her hobbies were: gardening, taking care of her houseplants, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, cooking, and watching Soap Operas and Wrestling. She was a sociable person who loved to laugh and joke. Telling her grandchildren their family history was one of the most enjoyable things that she loved doing, and they loved hearing it.
“Shorty” was her nickname, she may have been a little person in height but she had a really big heart, soul and spirit. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy leaves to mourn: a loving and devoted son, Whelon Love Sr. (Marie) of Crewe, VA; eight grandchildren, Whelon Love Jr. (Shirley) of Richmond, VA, Glendon Diggs (Lillie) of Crewe, VA, Adrienne Diggs (Allah Mathematics) of Bellmawr, NJ, Michael Diggs (Barbara Williams) of Farmville, VA, Helen Watson of Manchester, CT, Elaine (Pumkin) Booker of Rice, VA, Ethel Casper of Crewe, VA and Pamela Clarke (Heath) of Richmond, VA; twelve great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren, six great great-great grandchildren; six nieces; eighteen grand nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First Nottoway Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Love Family Cemetery, Crewe.
