Obituary for Doris Marie Bullard
Doris Marie Bullard departed this life peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Albert and Marie Lewis, her husband, Wongee B. Bullard, Sr., her sister, Annie Mae Bruce and her son, William Bullard.
Doris was baptized at a very early age and joined Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA where she served faithfully as an Usher, Deaconess and Missionary for many years. In her later years, she changed her membership to Union Baptist Church, Crewe, VA, where she worshipped faithfully until her illness. She shed her love through her profession of Nurses’ Aide for over thirty years where she cared for and nurtured the sick and disabled. She also served as a caregiver over the years for many children.
Doris was a wonderful and loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She always wore a beautiful and heart-warming smile, no matter what was going on. Doris was an incredible woman of faith, who truly loved the Lord. She was an encourager and always had a kind word to say to all she encountered. Even during her illness, she fought the good fight of faith and in the midst of it all, she chose to trust and believe God; never complaining. We would often hear her say “God has it and this too shall pass.” Doris loved her family and friends with all of her heart and strength.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two brothers, Bobby and Arthur Lewis (Earnestine); two sons, Wongee (Cleo) and Dwayne Bullard; son-in-law, Brightwell Allen; four daughters, Annie Artis (George), Theresa Allen, Rita “Nikki” and Thomasina Bullard (Larry), a goddaughter, Delphine Fowlkes (James); a devoted spiritual daughter, Tisha Haskins (Jamar and LaTaye); grandchildren, Ketisha, Brittany, Deirdre, Bridgette, Terrell, Tiara, Daeshawn, Joseph, Treyveon, Lucas and Daia; great grandchildren, Ke’Asha, Ja’Lah, Jermarrieo and Zyana; god grandchildren, James IV and John; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and devoted family friends, Annie Mae Branch, Sema Howerton, Cynthia Neal and Alton Hawkes.
