Obituary for Dora Jennings

Dora Jennings, daughter of the late Luther and Mozell Jennings, was born on August 19, 1942 in Crewe, Virginia. She departed her earthly life on November 19, 2024 after a lengthy illness. She was the last of six children who all preceded her in death.

Dora was educated in the public schools in Nottoway County and graduated in June, 1962 from Luther H. Foster High School. She continued her educational pursuits at Southside Vocational School and graduated in 1964 where she completed her course studies and training as a nurse’s aide. However, her true service was in the field of hospitality where she worked at Piedmont Hospital and Southside Community Hospital. She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church and a member of the church choir.

When Dora was not working two jobs, she was being a devoted daughter and companion to her mother, Mozell; they were two peas in a pod. Although she never had children of her own, she had many nieces and nephews that she poured love into and was also a surrogate mother to many. Dora has been described by many as a sweet, kind, caring and loving person. She always took the time to check on family, friends and even strangers that she would encounter in her travels. Dora enjoyed listening to music and reading, her special pastime was reading the bible.

As Dora began to slow down and cut back on her daily activities, she would always say “I am alright, God got me” or “I am blessed that it is as good as it is!”. She never wanted family or friends to worry about her, so she never complained even when she was not feeling her best.

Dora’s physical presence will be missed, but we will always be grateful for the beautiful memories, joy and love she leaves with us all to cherish.

Dora is survived by trusted confidants Brenda Hines, Dale Jennings and Sandra Singleton, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law, godchildren, special friends, and extended families in the community.
