Obituary for Diane Virginia Delaney
God saw that Diane was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he stepped out on the balcony of glory, wrapped his arms around her and whispered, “come be with me”. Diane Virginia Delaney was born on April 12, 1956 to Gertrude Smith Payne and the late Leonard Smith in Nottaway County. She departed her life on June 30, 2016 at 9:50 a.m. at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg Virginia.

Diane Received the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age. She was baptized and became a member of Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Crewe Virginia. She was educated in Nottaway County Schools and graduated from Prince Edward County High School. Diane was an employee of Burkeville Veneer Plant as a machine Operator. She then worked at Powhatan Correctional Center in Food Services and Velvet Textiles Company. She later retired from Fort Pickett due to health issues.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mark Delaney on July 1, 1978. They were blessed in union with one son, Mark Andre Delaney, whom preceded her in death. Diane leaves to mourn her husband of 38 years, Mark Delaney; three grandsons, Raekwon, Rasheem, and Nasir, one granddaughter, Jakeyla; mother, Gertrude Payne of Meherrin, VA; two brothers, Leonard Smith, Jr. (Marcia) of Greenbay, VA; Everette “Donnell” Smith of Crewe , VA; Valerie King (Lawrence) of Victoria, VA; Debbie Smith of Meherrin, VA; Barbara Bradshaw (Dorsey) of Forest, VA; Pamela Ingram (Shan) of Lynchburg, VA; two aunts, Sheila Rich of Burkeville, VA and Lillie Diggs (Glendon) of Burkeville, VA; one uncle, Rudolph Paige (Sonji) of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Jackson Cemetery, Crewe.
