Derek Antione Ransome, more infamously known as Ricky, was born on May 29,1958 in a Naval Hospital in Philadelphia PA. He fought a good fight; but, he transitioned to eternal rest at Centra Southside Community Hospital, Farmville VA on July 12, 2024.
Ricky was born to the late Rev Alfonso A. Ransome and Bessie S. Ransome. He was the first born of two sons. He accepted Christ at an early age, and joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Burkeville,Va. He was a true believer in faith. His favorite bible verse was John 14: 1-3.
He grew up in Nottoway County and received his education there. He graduated in 1976 from Nottoway High School. He participated in drama and was musically inclined. Ricky was Recognized for creating the Fire Band and Show. After a brief time in the army, he attended VCU for two years, where he studied Mass Communications.
Later in his life he served 6 years in the Navy as a sonar technician on Fast Attack Nuclear submarines. He was given several awards for his Submarine leadership. He traveled near and far serving his country. He was a proud member of the Naval Force.
After his military life, Ricky returned to Norfolk and began working in various employment opportunities, which included Simens Corporation. He then moved back to Philly for a few years, before moving to Virginia in 2011 where he began his next Journey.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing his trumpet, listening to music, fishing, reading, and podcasting. Ricky was a self-published author of the “Penguin People”. He loved to be busy and creative. He will be missed and was known for telling the truth, slick comments, and always guaranteed to give you a laugh.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father Reverend Alfonso A. Ransome. He is survived by his mother Bessie S. Ransome, brother Tyrone Ransome, Maternal aunt Martha Devaughn, Son Jason Ransome, Daughter Terri Ridley ( Samuel Ridley), grandsons, Keylan Ross, Samuel Jr Ridley, Micah Ridley, granddaughter Olivia Ambrose, nephews Taylor Ransome, Chandler Ransome, Nieces Tyretta Adams (Jaman Adams), Kayla Ransome, great niece Kyra Gooden, great nephews Jaylen Gooden, Isaiah Adams, Issac Adams, God Sister Ella Johnson, Sisters of love Jessica Ransome, Ojetta Ransome, Life long friends The Birdsong Family, and a host of first cousins, relatives and dear friends.
