Obituary for Deborah V. Lewis
Deborah Vanessa Lewis, the oldest daughter of Vernell and Annie Lewis was born on January 27, 1957 in Baltimore, MD. Â She departed this life at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 surrounded by love at her home in Havre De Grace, MD.
 At an early age, Deborah gave her life to Christ at Central Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD and later joined New Psalmist Baptist Church in downtown Baltimore, MD.  After moving to Havre De Grace, Deborah would fellowship at many different churches and faiths, but would settle on the television ministries of T. D. Jakes and the 700 Club.  Sister, as she was affectionately called by family, helped in raising her siblings and would continue to help with raising some of her nieces and nephews.  Although Sister never had children of her own, her favorite niece Brittany she would call her child.
 Deborah received her formal education from the Baltimore City Public School System.  In 1975, she received her high school diploma from Walbrook Senior High.  Sister received her bachelor's of science degree in biology at Lincoln University and finished her master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Maryland - College Park.
 While attending Lincoln University, Deborah found another family and was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.-Zeta Omega Chapter.  Being a member of Delta Sigma Theta was very important to Sister.  Her work through Delta and her sorority sisters were permanent parts of her life until her death.
 Deborah was employed as a Civil Engineer Supervisor with the Harford County Government until her retirement in November 2012, after thirty-one years of service.  She enjoyed vacations with her family, cooking, sending cards, reading and writing, gardening and being all Delta, all the time!
 She was preceded in death by her mother Annie M. Lewis.
 Deborah is survived by Brittany Lewis, her father Vernell D. Lewis, Sr., four brothers Vernell D. Lewis, Jr., Alonzo L. Lewis, Sr. (Tonia), Darryl K. Lewis, Sr. (Wendy), Alex M. Lewis, four sisters Karen Z. Lewis  Patrice B. Lewis, Roberta Lewis-Simms, Sherri J. Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, aunts/uncles, other relatives and friends.
 Funeral Services were held Monday, December 17, 2012 from Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD with burial Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in the Lewis Family Cemetery, Crewe, VA.
