Obituary for Deaconess Mary Archer
On January 11, 2021, in the early morning hours at St. Francis Hospital in Chesterfield, VA, God dispatched his heavenly angels to let Deaconess Mary Ann “Nancy” Archer know that she had earned and received her wings, to come on home to her mansion that he had prepared just for her, where there will be no more sorrow, sickness, pain and suffering. She was born on March 1, 1948 in Amelia, VA to the late George and Ophelia Archer Epps.

“Nancy”, whom she was fondly called attended the Promise Land and Russell Grove Public Schools in Amelia, VA. She graduated from Russell Grove High School in June of 1966.
She worked at several jobs in and out of the county. ‘Nancy’ joined and was baptized by Reverend Braxton at the Promise Land Baptist Church at an early age. She enjoyed attending church services. She served as a member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee and the senior choir and became president of the senior choir for several years, and was also a big supporter of the youth choir.

“Nancy” was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Randel Epps and an infant daughter. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of fifty-four years, Deacon James Archer, children, Barry (Tertia) Archer, Shaun (Charlene) Archer and Tamara Archer, all of Amelia, VA; four granddaughters, Brianna, Ayanna, Aynaika of Richmond, VA and Jazamine Archer of Amelia, VA; three sisters, Bernice Williams of Washington, DC, Rosetta Pearl Epps of Maryland and Deaconess Evelyn (Deacon Andrew) Ruffin of Amelia, VA; four aunts, Deaconess Dora Lee Epps of Union, NJ, Fannie McBroom of North Carolina, Mary Jeter and Lena Mae Archer of Amelia, VA; one sister-in-law, Deaconess Joan (Deacon Ike) Owens; three nieces, Teresa Epps of Atlanta, GA, Reverend Tara Owens (Deacon Tony) and Tyffanie Ruffin of Amelia, VA; five nephews, Donell, Rodney, Eric Owens of Amelia, VA, George and Randel Epps of Richmond, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
