Obituary for Deaconess Annie T. Williams
Deaconess Annie Demetra Tucker Williams departed this life on Friday, April 30, 2021 at her home in Blackstone, VA surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was born August 31, 1946 to Ernestine Smith and the late James T. “Jim” Tucker in Nottoway County.
She attended Nottoway County Public Schools, and graduated from Luther H Foster High School in 1964. She attended Richard Bland College, Petersburg General Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated from Southside Community Hospital School of Nursing in Farmville, VA in 1985 with her nursing degree.
She was baptized and joined Spring Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She loved her Pastor, Rev. Dr. Travis L. C. Warren and her church family. She was a faithful member who served on the Nursing Ministry, Women’s Ministry and she was a Youth Sunday School Teacher, and on June 9, 2019, she was selected, blessed and appointed as a Deaconess.
Annie worked at Velvet Textile (Blackstone, VA), Piedmont Geriatric Hospital (Burkeville, VA) from which she retired in 2014, but she continued to work as a critical care nurse with American Critical Care (Richmond, VA). She loved and cared for her patients until her illness.
She met and married Gerald Gene Williams Sr., and to this union three children were born. She was preceded in death by her father, James “Jim” Tucker, her brother, Quentland E. Tucker, and her son, Raphael X. Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted children, Gerald G Williams II (Marcella) of Blackstone, VA; Bridgette Renee Miller (Shawn) of Altavista, VA; and Russell L Gholson, III (Latalia) of North Chesterfield, VA. Her grandchildren, Raphael and Markeez Williams, Dietra Hazelwood (Direk), Bianca, Shakyah, Rashaylah and Kiara Booker, Russell IV and Teigen Gholson. Her great-grandchildren, Journee B (if you saw Annie, she was somewhere close by) JaMarii, Jaheim, LaMari, Darius Jr., DaMarley, Eric III, and Erin. Her loving mother, Ernestine Tucker, and six sisters, Brenda Boykins of Philadelphia, PA, Barbara Jones of Kenbridge, VA, Claudia Kelly, Ruby Love, and Tuandra Spratley all of Blackstone, VA and Earnestine Bingham (Kevin) of Woodstock, GA. Two devoted nieces, Andrea “Suebaby” and Lisa-Marie, and a host of nephews, friends and cousins. Of them some very dedicated, Russell Gholson, Jr., Connie Price, Barbara Briggins, Shirley Jones, Patti Vaughter, Karsha Simmons and most precious Jeremy Allen.
