Deacon James S. Muse (Buster) WAS BORN ON APRIL 14, 1920, IN PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA TO THE LATE JESSE AND NANNIE MUSE. DEACON MUSE DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2015 AT CENTRA SOUTHSIDE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AT 5:50 AM, SURROUNDED BY HIS LOVED ONES.
DADDY WAS THE FIFTH CHILD OF SIX CHILDREN AND THE LAST SURVIVOR OF HIS SIBLINGS, COLEMAN, MARY, BERTHA, VIRGINIA AND MARTHA.
DADDY WAS EDUCATED IN THE PITTSYLVANIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS. HE WORKED AT THE FORMER PIEDMONT SANATORIUM (PRESENTLY, PIEDMONT GERIATRIC HOSPITAL) IN BURKEVILLE, VIRGINIA FOR 30 YEARS.
DEACON MUSE ACCEPTED CHRIST AT AN EARLY AGE AND JOINED THE FOURTH MOUNT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH. HE SERVED ON THE DEACONS MINISTRY FOR 70 YEARS, DURING WHICH HE HELD THE OFFICES OF CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR. DEACON MUSE SUNG ON THE SENIOR CHOIR AND FORMED THE FIRST MALE CHORUS AT THE CHURCH. HE FAITHFULLY SERVED HIS CHURCH UNTIL HIS HEALTH FAILED.
DADDY HAD A LOVE FOR MUSIC. HIS FAVORITE HYMNS HE WOULD SING WAS “I WANT TO BE AT THE MEETING” AND LORD DON’T MOVE MY MOUNTAIN.” HE LEAVES THE LEGACY OF MUSIC AND SINGING GOD’S PRAISES THROUGH SONG TO HIS CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. DEACON MUSE WOULD LISTEN TO HIS FRIEND ROBERT HARRIS KNOWN AS THE “LIL MAN OF GOSPEL EVERY SATURDAY MORNING ON THE RADIO. HE WOULD CALL IN HIS REQUESTS EVERY WEEKEND FOR HIS CHILDREN AND WOULD NOT LEAVE HOME UNTIL THE LIL MAN WENT OFF THE AIR. DEACON MUSE LOVED HIS FLOWERS AND BASEBALL. HE WON “YARD OF THE MONTH” FOR HIS FLOWERS AND HE WAS A LOYAL FAN OF THE ATLANTA BRAVES BASEBALL TEAM.
DEACON MUSE MARRIED MARIE CASPER AND TO THIS UNION GOD BLESSED THEM WITH 5 CHILDREN THAT HE LOVED DEARLY, TWO OF WHICH PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH, JESSE AND DORIS MUSE.
DADDY LIVED ON HIS OWN UNTIL THE AGE OF 92 BEFORE GOING INTO HERITAGE HALL NURSING HOME, BLACKSTONE, VIRGINIA.
LEAVES TO CHERISH HIS MEMORY: SON, JAMES T. MUSE (KAREN); DAUGHTERS, THELMA DELANEY WILSON AND LINDA GLADYS ROGERS; ALL OF CREWE, VIRGINIA; TEN GRANDCHILDREN THAT CALLED HIM “BIG DADDY, PAPA AND GRANDDADDY”: JAMES DELANEY, JR. (ANGELA), REGINALD MUSE (LISA), JESSE ROGERS, ANTONY DELANEY, SR. (TAMI), STEVEN DELANEY, SR. (ANGELA), BRIAN ROGERS, CLAUDIA BROWN, LAFONDA REDD, SHARONDA ROGERS AND LATOYA DELANEY; SEVENTEEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN INCLUDING HIS “BABY” ASHAUNA (SHINY POOH), AND ONE GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILD; HIS STEP CHILDREN: SANDRA, MILDRED, LAWRENCE, DON, DOREEN, DANNY, ANGELA, TERRENCE, REBECCA, RUTH, LILLIAN, JOHANNA, ROGER AND NITA; SPECIAL FRIENDS: CHARLOTTE MUSE, ALFRED ROGERS, DEACON JOSEPH RHOADS AND HIS “BOYS” BRIGHTWELL, MILTON, BRYANT AND PHILLIP; BROTHER IN LAW: ALVIN WITCHER, SR. (EVELYN); SISTERS IN LAW: CHRISTINE JONES, ANNIE WILLIAMS AND JOSEPHINE COLEMAN; AND A HOST OF NIECES, NEPHEWS, OTHER RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.

Funeral Services Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Fourth Mount Zion Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Jackson Cemetery, Crewe.

Funeral Services for Deacon James Muse will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Fourth Mount Zion Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Jackson Cemetery, Crewe.
