Obituary for David L. Jones
On Tuesday, September 15, 2009, God in His infinite wisdom, called home our beloved, David Lorenzo Jones, affectionately known as “Josh”.
He was born July 4, 1965 in Richmond, VA to Robert and Ivornell Evans Jones. He was reared in Blackstone, VA where he attended Nottoway County Public Schools. He graduated from Nottoway High School in 1983. At an early age, David was baptized and became a member of Mt Nebo under the direction of Pastor David Gordon. He acknowledged Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and went on to serve on both the Mt. Nebo Junior Usher Board and the Junior Deacon Board.
David was a dedicated and hard worker and worked until his health began to deteriorate in January 2009. At that time, he was the forklift operator at Arcola Lumber Company in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
David had a happy-go-lucky personality and loved to entertain others with his tall tales and jokes. He was a die-hard, uncompromising Washington Redskins fan.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clifton and Bernell Evans, his paternal grandparents, Lee and Irene Jones and first cousin, Bernell Watson.
David leaves to cherish his memory, one devoted daughter, Katrina Renee’ Jones; his life-long companion, Melinda Clark; parents, Robert Jones of Kenbridge, VA and Ivornell Jones of Blackstone, VA; three brothers, Robert Leroy Jones, Sr (Sheila) of Blackstone, VA, Andrew Jones of Hemet, CA and Kevin Jones of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Valerie Ford (Walter) of Matoaca, VA and Shari Blackwell (Jerel, Sr) of Prince George, VA; seven nephews, five nieces, and a host of paternal and maternal uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends who will be forever grateful that David was allowed to be in their lives.
Funeral Services Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of the arrangements.
